Problem, Need, Opportunity

The purpose of this website is to serve as a fun, fashion forward website for women and girls to learn how to choose, apply, and create different looks using makeup.  In general I think that young girls and women have the need and desire to learn how to apply makeup, using a variety of tools and colors, and in a more informed and confident way.  The fashion industry is always changing and with that also comes change in makeup styles.  By utilizing the avenue of multimedia and interactive media women will continuously be able to access and refer to an easy online guide of “how-tos” for makeup tips, tricks, and up to date styles or trends.

Audience

The target audience of interest is going to be women in general, anywhere from age 12 to age 80.  No matter what age, most women will always have an interest in either learning how to apply their makeup in a more efficient way or want to change their current makeup style.

A secondary audience might possibly be other makeup artists already in the industry looking for ways to expand their career field

No major technical skills will be necessary with respect to being able to use and navigate the site.   

Environment

The environment in which this site would be used would be mainly on an individual basis, from home or in a leisure environment. 

User’s Needs

• Education about skincare
• Education on makeup basics, complexion, and utilizing tools
• Learning simple, clean, natural everyday makeup
• Learning night time and smoky eye makeup
• Photo gallery of Hollywood’s makeup styles & inspirations
• Video demonstration or photo sequence explanation

Resources & Limitations

I know that I personally have the skills, education and background in this subject to produce a successful educational website.  I have some personal photos and also would like to use photos of Hollywood figures to keep the styles up to date.  In order to keep within copyright/plagiarism guidelines I plan on citing or linking the websites I utilize.  This will also provide access to a variety of educational information about makeup artistry also available on the web.

General Solution

All in all, I would like to provide an all-inclusive, fun and relevant site for women to become more educated and excited about makeup.  Makeup is one of those things that can be very confusing and discouraging if not used correctly.  I want my site to provide basic information about the use and application of makeup as well as a reference guide for tips, tricks, and current makeup trends and styles.  The site will be easy to navigate, mainly through the use of photos, and will also include a gallery of makeup “looks” for the audience to reference.
